Western Reserve Heart Care Receives ICANL Nuclear Medicine Accreditation

Heart Care Practice in Hudson is the Only Lab in Summit County Outside of Akron Accredited for Both Nuclear Medicine and Echocardiography

HUDSON, OH (March 27, 2008) - Western Reserve Heart Care, a cardiology testing and treatment facility located in Hudson, was recently granted accreditation as a nuclear medicine lab by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Nuclear Medicine Laboratories (ICANL). The accreditation makes Western Reserve Heart Care the only ICANL and ICAEL accredited outpatient nuclear medicine and echocardiography lab in the local area of Stow, Tallmadge, Hudson, Streetsboro, Twinsburg, and Solon.

"Receiving the ICANL nuclear medicine accreditation is a huge achievement for any practice," explained Dr. Emil Hayek, founder of Western Reserve Heart Care. "We are especially thrilled to have received both the nuclear medicine and the echocardiography accreditations in our first year in business."

Western Reserve Heart Care offers both adenosine and exercise treadmill nuclear stress tests. Nuclear stress testing is a complex imaging technique that uses non-harmful radioisotopes to diagnose heart disease. The patient is given a small dose of radioisotopes that can be detected externally with a special camera. The physician can then diagnose illnesses through the movements of the radioactive material. The ICANL program evaluates the credentials of the physician and technologists, the quality of the equipment in use at the lab, as well as the quality of the images recorded for interpretation and the skill of the staff interpreting the results.

The ICANL was established with the support of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and the American Society of Nuclear Cardiologists to provide a peer review mechanism to encourage and recognize the provision of quality nuclear diagnostic evaluations by a process of voluntary accreditation.

Western Reserve Heart Care received its echocardiography accreditation from the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL) in December 2007.

The American Heart Association recommends 30 minutes of moderate-intensity activity five times a week- take a walk, dance, go biking, or go for a jog.

If you smoke, it is never too late to achieve the health benefits of quitting; if you do not smoke, do not start!

If you are diabetic, try to maintain good glucose control through medication, diet, and weight-loss.

Western Reserve Heart Care Receives ICAEL Echocardiography Accreditation

Heart Care Practice in Hudson is the Only Accredited Lab in Summit County Outside of Akron

HUDSON, OH (December 21, 2007) - Western Reserve Heart Care, a cardiology testing and treatment facility located in Hudson, was recently granted accreditation as an adult transthoracic echocardiography lab by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL).

"We’re thrilled to have this accreditation, which is only given to the hospitals and labs that meet the highest standards for echocardiography," explained Dr. Emil Hayek, founder of Western Reserve Heart Care.

The accreditation makes Western Reserve Heart Care the only ICAEL accredited outpatient echocardiography lab in the local area of Stow, Tallmadge, Hudson, Streetsboro, Twinsburg, and Solon. According to Gina Huxtable, registered cardiac sonographer, there were many steps to achieve the accreditation and Western Reserve Heart Care met or exceeded every guideline.

Echocardiography is a complex imaging technique that relies on the experience and training of both the physician and sonographer. Their interpretive and technical abilities determine the diagnostic accuracy of an echocardiographic examination. The ICAEL has developed an accreditation program which evaluates the quality of the equipment in use at the lab, as well as the quality of the images recorded for interpretation and the quality of the interpretation itself.

The ICAEL was established with the support of the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE), the American College of Cardiology, and the Society of Pediatric Echocardiography (SOPE) to provide a peer review mechanism to encourage and recognize the provision of quality echocardiographic diagnostic evaluations by a process of voluntary accreditation. Accreditation status signifies that the facility has been reviewed by an independent agency which recognizes the laboratory’s commitment to quality testing for the diagnosis of heart care.
